Only FREE and OPEN SOURCE Software.
No 'Shareware', 'Free Downloads' or 'Demoware'.

The purpose of this site:
A source for those in countries or communities where the computer has been donated and the hardware would be better with Windows 98SE.

A site for those who do not wish to keep upgrading hardware and/or OS. Help and Advice with Windows 98SE.

Review Tools, Software, Drivers and Codecs to update 98SE for today's environment. Support the movement to make Windows 98SE Open Source so that developers can improve the OS and create light software.

Provide Links to Free Software, Freeware and Open Source Software that is proven to work with 98SE with the concept that Donations will be made to small business and individuals who work on these projects by those who use the software regularly and find it easy to use and install.

Provide a dedicated area for software developers and software tarts to exchange information and ideas relating to Windows 98SE.

At Winfoes 98se we wish to see 98se become an open source operating system and there is movement out there supporting this idea. Considering 98se is no longer supported, isn't it reasonable for such a large company to let it go.

It takes approximately 20 gigs of hard drive to install Vista, approximately 8 gigs for XP and that is to only put the basic software packages we all require to run along side either of these these two operating systems. Sure you could install leaner, but what have you got? Even leaner you have an OS that is bloated beyond all comparisons with a Linux Distro. The 98se installation we use has only taken 4.5 gigs of hard drive with over 80 applications installed. It is faster than any XP computers we tested on the same computers and more secure. Another problem is that hackers will normally try to crack the latest OS commonly supplied on new computers.

There are free operating systems out there and there are free operating systems being developed all the time. The problem as we see it is that computer manufacturers like the idea of getting, for next to nothing, an OS from the biggest player. You cannot go into a computer store and ask for that laptop with a Linux Distro for example. Where is the choice?

Not everybody wants to replace computers, hard drives or processors on a regular basis to accommodate the new over bloated OS. It is time consuming, irritating and there are poor administritive procedures involved in trying out the latest OS's that are supplied by the worlds largest player. We certainly will not throw away a Pentium III PC purchased in 2000 just because designers wish to create a new OS, full of holes and security leaks and use us as a guinea pig for a corporation to amass more money.

So we here at Winfoes will carry on with our 98se machines, looking for software that will work with 98se and carry on the principle that having a dual boot system with a Linux Distro is the best way of getting the new developements as well as making the older 98se leaner and faster.

Bin your Vista and get your life back with us.

If you are idiot enough to spill hot coffee in your lap, then sue because there was no warning on the cup, please do not try to install software.
